On XP and Win2003 server it just flies A Toms Hardware study came to the conclusion that Vista is about 5%-8% slower then XP on the same hardware. In some cases such as video encoding, it was as much as 18%-24% slower. http://www.tomshardware.com/2007/01/29/xp-vs-vista/ It sure has been my experience too.

The Vista I must say is superb. I have already used it whilst walking in Snowdonia. Planning to go climbing in The Peak District soon. What is more, I have downloaded Metroguide data (contact supplied by Leisure Technology) into my Vista. Whilst driving to Wales I realised that my car was running on petrol vapour!

Then it occured to me I could use my windows XP tablet licence for it, as I now run vista on the tablet. My licence doesn't cover that, but I don't understand why it shouldn't. Not that it really matters, as it won't be running 'windows' as such, just a load of .net 2 applications of my own creation.

Went to tigerdirect and bought external HD with SATA connection and disconnected my main system drive, just to be on safe side;) The external HDs are only good for backing/archiving your old data. The performance you get out of an external HD by installing the OS on it is questionable, IMHO.

Understood, and I am not saying it's garbage (I have not installed it, so I cannot say). All I am saying is from what I read, it doesn't seem that attractive. Anyhow, I know I will end up installing it sometime and ultimately I'll convert <G>, but for now I just wanted to tell about my skepticism.
